An oil spill was reported 22 miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras.

Beach goers on Ocracoke are not expected to see any sheen from the spill, reported The Carolina MercuryThe spill by a US Navy destroyer went on for about five hours, and released 35,000 gallons of "a light diesel fuel akin to gasoline." The fossil fuel is expected to evaporate before reaching shores.

Oil spills and oil slicks are not uncommon in oil driven economies. Just ask coastal Nigerians.
