Jean Fletcher

Eugenia "Jean" Mincey Fletcher, 78, of Ocracoke Island and formerly of Swan Quarter and Greenville, died Friday, January 24, 2014, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

She was born in Durham County, November 25, 1935 and grew up in Orange County near the community of Schley. She was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Sally Dixon Mincey She graduated from the former Women's College in Greensboro with a BA degree in English and her Masters in Education with specialty in Guidance. She retired from a career as an educator after 30 years of service, having served in Greenville City Schools, Pitt Community College, Hyde County Schools and UNC Hospital.

She retired to Ocracoke where she operated Eugenias's Bed and Breakfast for seven years.

Jean enjoyed the last few years on Ocracoke reading and petting her lap dogs. She was continually called upon for counseling even beyond retirement. She was a member of the North Carolina Education Association of Educators, Delta Kappa Gamma and The Friends of Joyner Library at East Carolina University.

Funeral Services were held Monday at St. George's Episcopal Church at Lake Landing. The Rev. James Lupton officiated with burial will following in the church cemetery.

Her family includes her husband, John S. Fletcher II; two sons, J. D. Fletcher and wife, Dawn of Greenville and Donald Hay Fletcher and wife, Susan of Charleston SC; a brother, Charles N. Mincey and wife Wanda of Schley NC; three grandchildren, Madison Fletcher, John Stuart Fletcher and Charles Dixon Fletcher.
