Ten Thousand Breakfasts

Ten Thousand Breakfasts

A new book by Ann Ehringhaus is on island bookshelves this month.

Ten Thousand Breakfasts, A Tale of Wonder was reviewed for the Current by Ruth Fordon. Ruth's the editor of the Ocracoke Observer, where this review was first published.

Ocracoke stories are always in demand.

In 1988, the very popular Ocracoke Portrait was Ann’s first book about the island, a collection of her black/white photographs.  Ann Ehringhaus’ new non-fiction work will join the ranks as one of the island’s best reads. This 206 page full color book includes her original photographs as well as a collaboration of stories, guest photographs, drawings, poems, and art by guests reflective of her 30 years as proprietor of Oscar’s House Bed and Breakfast on Ocracoke Island.

It chronicles her journey of discovery and self-transformation as she learned skills for sharing her home space; how to set boundaries for herself and guests; and how to have clear communication within that environment. Most importantly she learned how to build a worldwide community of creativity, spirit and kindness among strangers from the daily practice of preparing and offering healthy breakfasts to her guests.

Ann has generously shared breakfast recipes as well as her unique perspective of growth and change in a business that can often be romanticized. Find out how she managed to avoid the pitfalls of this B&B business, the crisis of the five-year anniversary, and how she is still having fun after thirty years!

Watch for postings for her book signing to occur sometime around Thanksgiving, hosted by Leslie Lanier at Books to be Red on School Road.
