It's a whole weekend of piratical fun!

Ocracoke School PTA Halloween Carnival

3:30 to 10 p.m., Ocracoke School, 120 School Road.

This fun-filled Ocracoke tradition kicks-off each year with the children's Costume Parade (3:30 p.m.) around the school's flag circle. Bring your little pirates to join in the fun! The carnival is the major fundraiser for the Ocracoke School PTA, and starts with a Hot Dog/Mexican Food sale at 4 p.m.  From 5 to 7:30 p.m., you can try your hand at the Carnival Games for all ages and skills in the school gym – including the Ocracoke original Flounder Flop! The Cake Walk starts at 6 p.m. It's your chance to plunder one of many delicious homemade desserts!

The Carnival culminates with cutthroat Quizo games! The game runs from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the school gym, and you can join in at any time while the game is running. Ocracoke School's version of Bingo gives you the chance to win great prizes and gift certificates donated by Ocracoke businesses.

Come Meet the Pirates! 7 to 9 p.m.  Ocracoke Community Center,   999 Irvin Garrish Hwy.

Historian-author Kevin Duffus and Pirate Captain Horatio Sinbad of The Meka II conduct a Mock-Court of Vice Admiralty, to Hear an Indictment Against the History of Blackbeard, the Notorious Pyrate” to weigh evidence as to the identities and fates of those pirates who escaped with Blackbeard aboard the sloop Adventure after wrecking the Queen Anne’s Revenge in Beaufort Inlet. You get to decide their fates! Hors d’oeuvres and music provided by the “Motley Tones.”  Sponsored by Ocracoke Civic and Business Association.

10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Blackbeard’s Pirate Crew Encampment,  Grounds of the Historic Wahab House, 161 Irvin Garrish Hwy.   Experience history as it comes alive in the encampment and on the waterfront with the Ada Mae and the Meka II.  Admission is FREE!

10:00 a.m.  Pirates Invade by Land!  

Watch as the Pirates fight off a seaborne attack by the vessels Meka II and Ada Mae. Muskets and cannons roar as the Pirate Encampment repels the invaders. 

10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Living History Exhibits at the encampment, including Tavern Games and Pirate Skits:

 

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Blackbeard’s Market at Community Square

Arts, crafts, refreshments, and “Pirate Wares.”  Get your “Treasure Hunt” passport; visit Ocracoke businesses to compete for prizes.

11 a.m. and  2:00 p.m.  Scallywag School for Kids at The Pirate Crew Encampment

 Two 30-minutes skits — for Aspiring Young Pirates!

Noon to 7 p.m.  Enjoy a selection of adult and kid-friendly grogs at The Live Oak Garden

Noon: The Rumgagger: Piratical Tales & Nautical Nonsense with Captain Rob Temple and Fiddler Dave Tweedie on board the skipjack Wilma Lee at The Community Square and Docks

1 to 1:30 p.m. Kevin Duffus, author of “The Last Days of Blackbeard the Pirate” discusses:

“Myths vs. Facts: What’s Really True about Blackbeard” an interactive discussion at with a pirate surprise, at The Live Oak Stage      

1 to 2 p.m. Little Pirates "Create-a-Craft" at The Ocracoke Preservation Society, 49 Water Plant Rd.

Small fry pirates can create an eye patch, a hook and a tattoo.

2 to 2:45pm: Shadow Players at Books to be Red, School Road

A show consisting of sword fighting, comedy, whip demonstrations, songs with lots of audience interaction!

3 p.m. Pirates Invade by Sea!  Blackbeard’s Battle at Ocracoke on Silver Lake

A live pirate ship battle on Silver Lake! Watch as Lt. Maynard and his ships corner The Adventure and crew. Cannons blaze and The Adventure is boarded, culminating with the Lieutenant bringing Blackbeard’s head ashore. Great viewing is available at many points around the harbor.

4:30 p.m. Kids Sing-a-Long with the Pirates at The Live Oak Stage at Books to be Red,School Road

Interactive Sea Chanteys, Pirate Songs and fun with music by The Motley Tones

5:30 p.m. Kids Pirate Movie at Deepwater Theater, School Road

5:30 to 7:00 p.m. “Come be Nauti” at the Bawdy Beer Garden – The Live Oak Stage, Books to be Red, School Road

Celebrate the end of the Invasion. Join in “Bawdy Songs and Seafaring Games” with the Pirate Crews. Music provided by the “Motley Tones.” Grog is available for purchase for those pirates over 21.

10 a.m. to Noon

Springer’s Point Nature Preserve, End of Lighthouse Road

Memorial Service for those killed in Blackbeard’s last battle.  Gather at Blackbeard’s Lodge, 111 Back Road, then join in the Pirate Procession along Lighthouse Road to beautiful Springer’s Point. As Meka II and Ada Mae stand off shore, the eulogy is read and the wreath laid, culminating in a broadside salute.
