Our good bill HB#475 is up for hearing on Tuesday, 5/14/13 at 12:00 noon:  TIME TO ACT!

In the 2013 legislative session, Sen. Norman Sanderson, Sen. Bill Cook, Rep. Michael Speciale, Rep. Paul Tine, and other coastal legislators filed legislation to roll back the ferry tolls which threaten coastal citizens.

House Bill #475 “Ferry Tolling Alternatives” is a good bill sponsored primarily by Representatives Charles Jeter, Paul Tine, John Torbett, and Frank Iler.  Secondary sponsors are Representatives B. Brown, Bryan, Elmore, Hanes, Jones, Pittman, Ramsey, Speciale, Steinburg, Szoka, and Waddell.  HB#475 has been scheduled for hearing in the House Transportation Committee on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 12:00 noon.  Click here to read the bill.

Please immediately call the Representatives who sit on the House Transportation Committee and ask them to vote YES.  Also, ask them to push leadership to allow a vote on this bill in the full House before “Crossover” on Thursday, May 16, 2013.

We need them to pressure House leadership because yesterday, a “serial referral” was added to the bill, which means if it passes the Transportation Committee on Tuesday, it must be heard in the Finance Committee before it goes to the floor of the House for a vote.  All this must be done by the deadline on Thursday. Tough!  Adding the serial referral may be an attempt to prevent our bill from passing the House.  We must fight back NOW!

Please call and email all members of the House Transportation Committee.  Click here for the full membership roster of this Committee.  Click on the name of the Representative to view his or her telephone number and email address at the legislature.

Be sure to thank the members of House Transportation who are bill sponsors for HB#475.

Note that the companion bill in the Senate was filed by Sen. Norman Sanderson and Sen. Bill Cook.  SB#524 has been sitting in the Senate Transportation Committee since 4/1/13 and will surely not be heard this week.  Senators Sanderson and Cook will help us in the Senate, but the House bill must pass the House before it gets to the Senate.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions.

Best regards, Henri and Joe McClees
