Former Squirrel Nut Zipper Tom Maxwell was caught having lunch at Dajio today, Tuesday, March 19.

So what if Tom doesn't update his webpage all that frequently? We at Ocracoke Current understand.

He's on the island researching an article for Our State magazine about its original publisher, Carl Goerch.

Goerch wrote the book on Ocracoke. It's called Ocracoke, and was first published in 1956. When Goerch visited the island, there were no state supported ferries, nor a bonny bridge; no doctor, no beer halls, no traffic lights, and loads of bare feet. A few things have changed. Some haven't, like the welcoming vibe of the island. 

Maxwell thought Dajio looked like a fun place to play, said server Jen "JB" Buday. She and lunch customer Ryan McQuaig helped hook him up with a guitar, and JB is threatening to whip out her ukulele (Did you say that part was supposed to be "off the record"? I can't remember) and join him onstage.

Maxwell's performance will start at 7:30 tonight, at the Dajio patio bar. Get out and enjoy this unexpected treat, and last warm winter evening, before spring rolls in with cooler weather tomorrow. (Did somebody say 'spring rolls'? When does Thai Moon re-open? Mmmmm).
