Friday morning, Diana Perez is hosting a Jump-Rope-A-Thon at the Ocracoke School for elementary students.
The Jump-Rope-A-Thon is a program that promotes physical activity, heart healthy living, and community service to children. All funds collected will go towards new physical education equipment at Ocracoke School.

Diana organized the event as part of her senior project on Childhood Obesity. She has spent the past few months researching her project and shadowing Dr. Erin Baker at the Ocracoke Health Center.

"I think childhood obesity is a rising issue in this nation and the first step to stopping it is learning what causes it,” said Diana, on choosing the topic for her senior project.

Diana will share her results during the information displays of the “Art of the Healthy Heart” Fair this Saturday, February 23, from 1 – 3pm at the Ocracoke Community Center.

Join us at 11:30 am for a healthy heart potluck. Bring your recipe and heart healthy dish to share and enter in a contest.  There will be judging by the all the participants based on presentation and taste with a grand prize of a veggie box from Coastal Farmers Co-Operative.

Come and enter for a chance to win our raffle prize of a 3 month membership to Angie’s Gym, here on Ocracoke!
