Press Release
An Evening at the Library Program Scheduled

Charles Temple, the Ocracoke high school English teacher who last year won the first Jeopardy!

Teachers’ Tournament, will be the speaker at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the Ocracoke Community Library, 225 Back Rd.

The talk is free and open to the public. Refreshments will follow.

In his talk, titled “Alex, I’ll take lifelong learning for $100,000; an insider’s view of Jeopardy!’s first Teachers’ Tournament winner,” Temple will share his experiences from how he got onto the popular game show in May 2011 to his dramatic final days of competition.

Temple will discuss how he handled knowing he had won and his sworn secrecy until the final broadcast. He also will explain how he prepared for competing in a high-pressure game that requires vast knowledge in many subject areas, as well as his love of learning and tips on how to satisfy intellectual curiosity beyond the classroom.

The talk is part of a new “Evening at the Library” cultural series begun in October that will feature various speakers and topics each month throughout the off season. The series is sponsored by the Ocracoke Friends of the Library and is free and open to the public.
