No arrests were made last week on Ocracoke.

Officers continue to gather evidence in the breaking and entering cases at three local restaurants.  The same suspect is believed to be responsible for entering unlocked cars in the Oyster Creek area the night after the restaurants were burgled.

Hearsay is not sufficient to get a search warrant or call someone in for questioning, said Sergeant Daniels.  After SBI labs examine the evidence, charges may be brought.

Ocracoke police are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  "Call the sheriff's office if you see someone breaking into a vehicle," or anything suspicious, said Sergeant Jason Daniels.  Officers do not hesitate to get out of bed at 3 or 4 a.m., he said.  "If it's important to that person, it's important to us," he emphasized.

Deputies responded to a disturbance call at a local hotel.  Someone was beating on a door that was not their own.  The incidence was peacefully resolved.

While a few individuals reported feeling less than chipper on Saturday, October 20, Kenny Ballance's island-wide October 19 party, to celebrate his retirement, caused no problems for the department, said Daniels.

A local driver took out a fence and damaged some other property.  The property owners declined to prosecute, and the matter is being handled civilly.

There were very few traffic stops, and no tickets were written.
