323 Ocracoke voters hit the polls on Tuesday.

49 received Republican ballots; 264 received Democratic ballots; 3 received Libertarian ballots; and 7 voters elected to receive only the non-partisan part of the ballot.

Incumbent Commissioner Darlene Styron received 131 votes from her Ocracoke constituency.  Challenger John Fletcher II got 110.  Fletcher won the county-wide election 603 - 486, taking every mainland district except Lake Landing, which narrowly supported Styron.

Ocracoke voters rejected Amendment 1 by a margin of 211 to 107.  298 mainland voters cast their ballots "Against" Amendment 1, while 802 voted for.  Dare County was the only eastern NC County--and one of eight in NC--to reject the constitutional change defining marriage as between one man and one woman.

Thomas Whitaker and Randy Etheridge were elected to seats on the Board of Education.

Walter Dalton was the favored Democratic nominee for Governor, getting 128 votes to Bob Etheridge's 77.  Gardinia Henley received 12 votes; Gary M. Dunn 4; Bill Faison 3; and Bruce Blackmon 2.

Ocracoke Democrats were split on the Lieutenant Governor nominee.  Linda D. Coleman took the district over Eric Mansfield, 101 -99.

In the Republican primary, Mitt Romney received 23 votes; Ron Paul 13; Rick Santorum 5; and Newt Gingrich 2.

For the Republican Governor nomination, Pat McCrory got 24 votes.  Scott A. Jones was the candidate closest to McCrory, with 4 votes.
