If you can look into the seeds of time,
And say which grain will grow, and which will not,
Speak.

Ocracoke School English teacher Charles Temple revitalized local theater two years ago.

To show an unfelt sorrow is an office which the false man does easy.

He directed a triumphant, moving performance of A Midsummer Nights Dream, presented at Deepwater Theater and Books to be Red, in the spring of 2010.  In 2011, a sold out run of Ian Stuart Black's dark comedy, We Must Kill Toni (Or Marry Her) took place in Ocracoke's community center.

Costume and set designers Jennifer Kidwell and Heather Johnson cast their net wide, inviting the whole community to lend or donate clothing and props.  They created sumptuous sets and and a rich, quirky palette of costumes, on their own well worth the modest price of admission.

Performers come from all walks of Ocracoke life, with Ocracoke high school students featuring in the plays.  The first day of tryouts for the spring performance of Macbeth was on Sunday evening.  On Monday, after school, students stepped up to read the script, hoping for roles.

The crew is still looking for people who love to get dressed up and strut their stuff to join the cast for small speaking roles, or for crowd scenes.

Look like the innocent flower,
But be the serpent under it.

Don't deny yourself the makeup, the costume and the invite to the cast party.

Still hesitant?  Screw your courage to the sticking place.  As Lady Macbeth would say, there's no shame in ambition.

Thank you to Heather Johnson for photos from the Monday tryouts.

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
