Due to extreme ocean overwash, NC12 on Ocracoke has been CLOSED between the ferry terminal and the NPS Pony Pens. Overwash is expected to continue through the day today, especially at high tides.

On Hatteras, NC12 is OPEN, but there are several areas of deep standing water due to rain. Please drive carefully if traveling today.

Meanwhile, Sound Class Ferries to/from Cedar Island and Swan Quarter are suspended due to high winds. 

If you're on Ocracoke, you're here for awhile. If you're off the island, you can't get here, and that's much much worse.
