Press Release
The Giving Tree Helps Deck the Halls

Off-island friends are providing free Christmas decorations to Ocracoke families.

Ocracoke residents are invited to the The Giving Tree event on Friday, December 6th, at Ocracoke Community Center, 3pm-6pm. Islanders, please stop by to replace lost Christmas decorations, share a snack, and see your neighbors! So many people lost their precious family heirlooms and decorations during the storm; this is a wonderful opportunity to start some new traditions.

Thank you to the many sponsors for this program:

Rubie Shoemaker, a student at Cape Hatteras Secondary School, spearheaded the Giving Tree community service project with the Cape Hatteras DECA Chapter. The students members of DECA, a national organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management, chose to do a project that would benefit the locals of Ocracoke Island who were affected by Hurricane Dorian.

Many Hatteras residents crafted ornaments just for Ocracoke!

Their goal is to provide traditional Christmas decorations to the residents of Ocracoke by collecting new and lightly-used decorations to give away.
