Thankful

Thankful

So much to be thankful for -- and so much to do this holiday weekend!

Please share what you're thankful for in the comments. The Ocracoke Current is thankful for you, our dear readers! Thanks for your continued support! We wish you the juiciest of turkeys, creamiest of pumpkin pies, and the happiest of Thanksgiving Days this year.

Wobble before you Gobble @ the Annual Turkey Trot at 8am Thanksgiving Day! Gobble Gobble Turkey Trotters! Please join Angie's Gym and 1718 Brewing, virtually, for our 5th Annual, Unofficial 5K Turkey Trot! The race starts at 1718 Brewing at 8am on Thanksgiving morning. Lauren at Graceful Bakery has graciously agreed to make a pie for the 5K winner and a pie to be raffled again this year! Daphne at the Back Porch will also be contributing a sticky toffee pudding and a toasted coconut ice cream with hot fudge to the raffle, so lots of sweet reasons to come out and join us! This event is a fundraiser! All proceeds will be divided between Ocracoke School and Action against Child Exploitation.

On Thanksgiving Day, (Thursday, November 28) Ocracoke Disaster Relief, Liberty Christian Fellowship, and John's Drive-In are joining together to host a Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the Berkley Barn. 1-3pm, or a little later. It's a potluck! If you are able, and choose to, we'd love to have your favorite side dishes or desserts to add to the cornucopia of food that will be provided. Our committee (with lots of help) will provide ham, turkey, stuffing, etc. If you'd like to volunteer to help that day with set-up, serving, or clean-up, please contact Sundae Horn (me) at 252-921-0283. More info here. Also, please feel free to BYOB! And stop by for the camaraderie, even if you have a dinner at home, too.

Black Friday is safe and fun on Ocracoke! And some of our shops will be open! Ride the Wind, Island Artworks, Kitty Hawk Kites, Bella Fiore, Books to be Red, Over the Moon, and Village Craftsman will all be open for Black Friday and the weekend for your holiday shopping!

Black Friday Gift Certificate Holiday Pop Up Market: Friday, November 29th at the Community Center from 3pm- 6pm. Start your holiday shopping this Black Friday by supporting a local Ocracoke business. Businesses will be offering gift certificates for sale from 3-6pm at the Community Center. This will help get some early sales for local businesses as they work on getting ready for Ocracoke to open to visitors and for the upcoming year. Buy gift certificates to your favorite Ocracoke shop, restaurant, or service to give as gifts (or as a treat for yourself).

Books to be Red is Turning the Page for Small Business Saturday with an Open House from 12-4pm. Refreshments, drinks, and door prizes! Stop by to see Books to Be Red and celebrate their re-opening as they "turn the page" into their new post-Dorian era.

The annual Holiday Boat Parade is scheduled for Saturday, November 30th from 5:30–6:30pm. View the boats from the new dock at the Community Square. All boats are welcome to enter -- light 'em up and cruise around the harbor! Hot drinks and sweet treats will be served at the dock! Contact Sundae Horn (me) at 252-921-0283 if you need lights or an inverter.
