Bruce Tarkington, a favorite sketch artist of Ocracoke and Down East scenes, has gifted Ocracats with this original charcoal and colored pencil sketch of our Ocracat, “Scooter.” The sketch is11 x 14 inches and is professionally matted and framed. Its gallery value, framed is $700.

Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20, and the winner will be chosen on Monday, September 2 (Labor Day). The winner does not need to be present to win as your name and phone # will be on your ticket. Ocracats will ship to the winner.

Raffle tickets will be sold during the Ocrafolk Festival, June 8, at Ocracats’ festival table. The sketch will be displayed throughout the summer in different gallery locations on the island where raffle tickets will also be available. Be sure to look for it!

Bruce Tarkington, a Sea Level, N.C. native, has been sketching the North Carolina coast ever since his retirement seven years ago as a veterinarian. His “Carolina Seascapes” collection includes 35 charcoal drawings and his “Down East NC-Beyond the North River” collection, which includes sketches of Ocracoke scenes, have been featured in several exhibits and won numerous awards. His “Down East NC” collection is currently on exhibit at The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center, at their temporary location on Arendell Street in Morehead City, from May 25 through Labor Day. Tarkington lives in Cary, N.C. with his wife, Beth.
