Thanksgiving is a lovely time on Ocracoke and you're welcome to join us.

This week also marks the end of the season for many local businesses. Jason's Restaurant, Graceful Bakery, Ocracoke Coffee Co., and Sorella's will all close for the season this week. Ocracoke Seafood Company (the Fish House) will close for the season after Saturday, November 25th. Mark your calendars for the annual Oyster Roast on December 30th.

Monday, November 20th:

1pm: Regular public meeting with NCDOT Ferry Division officials. 1pm @ the Community Center. All are welcome. 

5:30pm: Ocracoke Waterways Commission meeting @ the Community Center. The public is welcome to attend. 

Tuesday, November 21st:

Last day of season for Graceful Bakery, open 7am–12pm.

6:30pm: Open Jam @ Coyote Music Den, 6:30-9pm – sing, play, listen – all ages, all levels welcome (youth are encouraged to come at 6:30). No charge, but donations welcome.

Wednesday, November 22nd:

1pm: UMW Bake Sale! Stop by the Variety Store on Wednesday for the annual Thanksgiving bake sale. Take home some whole cakes and pies that your family will be grateful for! The bake sale begins at 1pm and proceeds benefit the United Methodist Women.

6pm: Festive Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Wine tastings pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at

CANCELLED due to illness: 7:30pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host a special Thanksgiving Show with Martin Garrish & Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories." Beloved island native Martin Garrish shares songs – "signposts of life" – and enchanting stories about growing up on Ocracoke. $15 for adults/$7 for kids under 12. More info at

Current Events Thanksgiving Week

Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23rd:

8am: Turkey Trot! The 3rd Annual, Unofficial 5K Turkey Trot is on Thursday, November 23rd at 8am! This event is a fundraiser for the Ocracoke 5th grade field trip. Everyone is welcome. You can choose to run for free, or for a $20 entry fee, you will receive an insulated grocery tote to carry all of your Thanksgiving leftovers! All paid entries will also be entered into a raffle for a turkey! Sign up here. Lots of exciting changes this year! You don't want to miss it!

11am: Ocracoke Oyster Company (252-928-0020) is serving a Thanksgiving buffet from 11am-5pm. The full menu will also be available!

Noon: Gaffer's Sports Pub (252-928-3456) Thanksgiving Day: Breakfast 7–10am, closed 10-noon, re-open for a Thanksgiving buffet, Noon-5pm. Live music Friday and Saturday nights.

5pm: Friends & Family Thanksgiving @ Ocracoke Assembly of God. All are welcome! Turkey and other meat provided for all; please bring a side dish or dessert to share!

7:30pm: Come one, come all  to the Ocrafolk Festival Thanksgiving Fundraising Concert @ Deepwater Theater. The concert features musical and storytelling! Join members of David Tweedie, Coyote, Richard Bryant, Jenni Starr, and special guests and community members. $15 Adults, $7 Kids

Saturday, November 25th:

Last day of the season for Jason's Restaurant, open for lunch and dinner. Last day of season for Ocracoke Seafood Company.

1pm: Books to Be Red will host a Holiday Open House! Sales, refreshments, door prizes! Children welcome! 1–4pm. 

5pm: Kill Devil Rum Food Pairing @ O-Bar. Ocracoke Bar and Grille will host the Kill Devil Rum Co. for special food and cocktails. Live music with Aaron Caswell and Jackie Willis. Free swag! 

6pm: Zillie's Wine Dinner @ the Berkley Manor. Five-course Chef’s Tasting Menu and Wine Dinner. On-staff chef Christopher Johnson will be pairing delicious traditional and not-so-traditional courses with a superb wine selection from the racks of Zillie’s Island Pantry. Reservations for this very special evening are limited to 40 guests at $75 per ticket. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at

6:00pm: Live Music at Ocracoke Oyster Company. Martin & Friends will play 6–9pm.

7pm: Holiday Parade of Boats! Boats large and small are welcome to light up the waters of Silver Lake Harbor! Enjoy refreshments at the Working Watermen's Exhibit at the Community Square while you watch from the docks. Contact Sundae Horn @ 252-921-0283 for more information. Read more here

Sunday, November 27th: 

Last day of the season for Ocracoke Coffee Co., 7am-Noon.

Noon-6pm: Holiday Open House at Zillie's! Complimentary spiced apple cider, hot mulled wine, holiday treats, and secret surprise savings are all part of the plan for this festive afternoon! Join us for Zillie’s kickoff to the holidays!

Get creative! The 5th Annual "Ocracoke Through Your Eyes" show will feature small works by local artists – maybe you! Stop by the Museum, pick up a canvas, and be a part of the show! Or call the museum at 252-928-7375 and they will mail you one!  The canvasses are due back to the museum by January 10th. A wine-and-cheese reception and art opening is planned for Saturday, January 27th, from 5 – 7pm at the Museum.
