Press Release
Join in the End of Summer Fiesta

All are welcome to the fiesta/potluck and Queen of the Festival presentation Saturday night.

Join in the celebration of Mexico's Independence Day (no, it's not Cinco de Mayo, it's actually September 16th!) with the last Fiesta Latina of the summer. Enjoy delicious Mexican food and/or bring something to share to the community potluck. The feasting begins at Saturday, September 16th at 6pm at Deepwater Theater on School Road. We will gather together for a meal and learn about the plans for the 2017 Festival Latino de Ocracoke scheduled for Saturday, November 11th.

We will also get to meet the contestants for the 2017 Queen of the Festival Pageant! This year the pageant is open to girls age 7-10.

The 2016 Queen of the Festival contestants were high school girls who attended the festival each dressed in the traditional costume of one of Mexico's states. The girls raised money for the Festival by selling 50/50 raffle tickets – the pageant winner was the girl who sold the most! Vanessa Lora earned the La Reina del Festival crown for the first Festival Latina last year.

Pictured below are all the 2016 contestants, left to right: Jade Lopez representing San Luis Potosi; Karen Perez representing Jalisco; Bricia Rivera representing Veracruz; Iris Trejo representing Sinaloa; Vanessa Lora representing Puebla; Ingrid Contreras representing Guerrero; Lupita Martinez representing Nuevo Leon.
