Are You a Dingbatter?

If you answered yes, then you need to see this show!

If you’re on Ocracoke and you don’t know what a dingbatter is then you might be one. Dingbatter is an Ocracoke term meaning  “tourist.”

"A Dingbatter’s Guide to Ocracoke" is a new show at Deepwater Theater every Wednesday night this summer. It is a series of hilarious skits, with funny “commercial’s” in between. You will love the characters and might even get chosen to come up on stage! Whether you are an islander or a tourist you will be able to relate to the struggles of finding Ocracoke on the GPS or the fear of those pesky mosquitos. The whole performance is engaging and funny, making you wish it would never end.

The performance was written by David Tweedie, Desiree Ricker, and Gary Mitchell. The members of the cast include Desiree Ricker, Peyton Piquard, David Tweedie, and Gary Mitchell. Debbie Leonard is the stage and lighting manager. Gary Mitchell operates the sound, and there were other volunteers in the production of the play.

At the end you will be choosing your favorite characters. These funny and sometimes true mini-plays joke around about tourists in a way locals and visitors can both enjoy. The commercials provide a good transition, and a moment for the cast to switch costumes. If you get chosen to come up on stage, you can perform the actions of a pirate, and for your good work, get a prize after the show. A Dingbatter’s Guide to Ocracoke is an fantastic performance, and we hope to see you there!
