Go to the beach! And when you need a break from fun in the sun, check out all these cool things to do in the village! 

The National Park Service hosts interpretive programs on Ocracoke every week. Find that schedule here 

NPS volunteers and rangers open the Ocracoke Lighthouse a couple of times a week. (You can go in, but not up!) Stop by the NPS Visitor Center for specific times or check the Current's Facebook page.

Ocracoke Friends of the Library Used Book Sale is still going on! Stop by during regular library hours: Monday–Friday, 3–7pm, and Saturday, 9am-1pm. All proceeds benefit our wonderful little library!

Monday, July 24th:

1pm: OPS Museum Tour – Free! Today's guide is Philip Howard.

4pm: Christmas Eve in July @ Zillie's, 4-7pm. Old Saint Nick left Zillie’s a keg of Mother Earth Brewing’s bourbon barreled aged Silent Night Imperial Stout in their stocking for Christmas. Elton Lamm from Mother Earth will do a special tapping of Silent Night at 4 pm and Elton will be handing out FREE samples of other Mother Earth Brewing offerings. Stop by for a little taste of Christmas in July.

6pm: Family LEGO Night @ the Ocracoke Library. FREE! All are welcome to come and build. 6-6:45pm. 

8pm: Pirate Show at Deepwater Theater! Join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for a fun, family-friendly analysis of the infamous character Blackbeard the Pirate. 7:30pm; doors open at 7. Read more about "Blackbeard: A Historical, Hysterical Account" here.

Tuesday, July 25th:  

1pm: "Island Music" on Ocracoke Porch Talk with John Golden @ the OPS Museum. Porch Talks are FREE, informal, and informative!

7pm: Live Music! Bryan Mayer @ Ocracoke Oyster Co.

8pm: Live Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote Plus One" at 8pm every Tuesday night. This week's guest is Katy Mitchell of Ocracoke. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Wednesday, July 26th:

10am: Arrgh! Free piratical program aboard the Skipjkack Wilma Lee with Capt. Rob and Fiddler Dave!

1pm: Kids Create-a-Craft program @ OPS Museum. Bring your kids and enjoy this special program – this week it's Fish Prints! Suggested donation $5 for materials.

1pm: Makers Market on Silver Lake Local art, community offerings, located on the Wahab House lawn, next to Anchorage Inn. Parking at NPS lot. Weekly outdoor arts and crafts market with local and regional artisans.

6pm: Family Movie Night @ the LibraryKids under 8 need to bring a grown-up. Movie TBA. 

7pm: Live Music! Jon Lea @ Dajio, 7–10pm, Barry Wells @ Ocracoke Oyster Co. 6–9pm.

8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote: Just We Two" (just Marcy and Lou!) at 8pm every Wednesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

8pm: Dingbatter's Guide to Ocracoke @ Deepwater Theater. This new comedy-skit show is the ultimate guide for Ocracoke visitors (and residents) of all ages! Join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for answers to all your burning questions. Admission. Doors open at 7:30pm.

9pm: Sing out! It's Karaoke Night @ Ocracoke Oyster Co.!

Thursday, July 27th:

9am: Ocracoke Soccer Camp! Soccer skills camp for visiting and resident kids ages 5–15. $10 per participant for all three days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday), 9am–Noon @ Ocracoke Community Park. The coach is Steve Smalley of OBX Storm. For more information, call 540-577-5959 or visit online @ ocracokecommunitypark.com

10am: Free program aboard the Skipjack Wilma Lee! Learn about Navigation and Make Your Own Compass with Laura McClain.

1pm: Porch Talk @ the OPS Museum. Learn about the Ocracoke Water Plant with Dave Frum. Porch Talks are FREE, informal, informative, and fun! 

3pm: Live Music! Martin Garrish & Lou Castro @ Ocracoke Oyster Company! Come out to hear some amazing guitar playing, 3–6pm

3:30pm: Book Signing @ Books to Be Red 3:30–4:30pm. 3:30 until 4:30. Orrin Pilkey and Charles Pilkey will be signing copies of their book Lessons From the Sand. The book is filled with information about the Carolina beaches and has plenty of family science fun to do on the beach, with sections on waves, sand, shells, the environment, and more. 6pm: Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Summer wine tastings take place every Thursday and Friday at 6pm, and pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at zillies.com.

7pm: Live Music! Raygun Ruby, your favorite retro-80's band, plays 7-10pm @ Dajio!

8pm: Live Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night through November. Beloved island native Martin Garrish shares songs – "sign posts of life" – and enchanting stories about growing up on Ocracoke. $15 for adults/$7 for kids under 12. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Saturday, July 29th: 

12 Noon: Mexican Food Sale @ Community Square Fiesta Latina! Come out to the Community Square for Carnitas, Pico de Gallo, Salsa, Beans, and Homemade Tortillas – all for $10 a plate! Noon-4pm, or while supplies last. Proceeds benefit Festival Latino de Ocracoke, which will take place in November.

Sunday, July 30th: 

3pm: Stratford-upon-Ocracoke Shakespeare Reading @ Ocracoke Library. We will read a couple of scenes from a play, discuss, and have fun! No previous study or knowledge required! Everyone is welcome.
