The 4th Annual "Ocracoke Through Your Eyes" Art Show will be January 28th!

The show is a fundraiser for Ocracoke Preservation Society, and features small works donated by local artists and Ocracoke fans far and wide. The organizers expect to have 80-90 works of art to auction. A festive reception with wine and comestibles is planned for event on Saturday, January 28th, from 5 – 7pm at the Museum.

"I love it that the young people are helping with this," said OPS volunteer and board member Ruth Toth. Island young'uns and Ocracoke School art students, as well as some off-island kids, got creative for a good cause and donated artwork. There are plenty of adult artists involved, too!

The artists are asked to show Ocracoke as they see it – the beach, the village, the people, any small part that they choose. Participants can draw, paint, glue, sew, staple, or otherwise add artistic embellishments to the small ready-to-hang canvasses.

During the January 28th reception, the artwork will be hanging throughout the Museum, and available by silent auction bidding. The Art Show is always a fun social scene with plenty of last-minute friendly competition for the artwork.

If you can't make it to Ocracoke, you can still participate. OPS staff post photos of the canvases on the OPS Facebook page. You can see the artwork there and even place your bid online! Keep checking back – the page is updated as the canvasses come in.

Online bidding is available via email: admin@ocracokepreservation.org until noon on the day of the event (January 28, 2017). OPS does not have the manpower to bid in increments for you during the event, so bid high if you really want it. $10 is the minimum bid for any piece. Online bid increments can be placed in even dollar amounts; at the event, the bid increments will be in $5 amounts. Winning canvases from online bids will be sent to the winners with a $5 shipping charge added.
