Ocracoke gives thanks!

There's so much to be grateful for on Ocracoke.... The Ocracoke Current is thankful for you, our dear readers! Thanks for your continued support! We wish you the juiciest of turkeys, creamiest of pumpkin pies, and the happiest of Thanksgiving Days this year and every year.

We're also thankful for all the great eateries on Ocracoke. Be sure to get your last treats of the season from these businesses that are closing this week: Graceful Bakery (11/23) and Ocracoke Coffee Company (11/27). Ocracoke Seafood Company fish house will close after Saturday, November 26th.

Wednesday, November 23rd:

1pm: UMW Bake Sale! Stop by the Variety Store on Wednesday for the annual Thanksgiving bake sale. Take home some whole cakes and pies that your family will be grateful for! The bake sale begins at 1pm and proceeds benefit the United Methodist Women.

6pm: Festive Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Wine tastings pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at zillies.com.   7:30pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories." More info at www.coyotemusic.net
Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24th:
Current Events: November 21–27

8am: Turkey Trot! An unofficial, untimed 5K race to be held on Thanksgiving morning starting at Angie's Gym. This is a free event that you do not have to register for. Donations are welcome to benefit the 4th and 5th grade spring field trip to the NC mountains!

11am: Ocracoke Oyster Company (252-928-0020) is serving a Thanksgiving buffet from 11am-5pm. The full menu will also be available!

Noon: Gaffer's Sports Pub (252-928-3456) Thanksgiving Day: Breakfast 7–10am, closed 10-noon, re-open for a Thanksgiving buffet, Noon-5pm. Live music Friday and Saturday nights.

Current Events: November 21–27
5pm: The Ocracoke Assembly of God Church will host their annual Friends and Family Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner at 5pm. The church will provide turkey and meats; please bring a side dish or dessert if you can. All are welcome! If you can please RSVP to Pastor Ivey Belch (921-0021 or worship@ocracokeislandag.org) by the 21st, that will help make sure they cook enough for everyone!

Black Friday is safe and fun on Ocracoke! Shop local and find something for everyone on your list!

7:30pm: Come one, come all  to the Ocrafolk Festival Thanksgiving Fundraising Concert at the Ocracoke Community Center. The concert features musical and storytelling! Join members of Molasses Creek, storyteller Donald Davis, and performers from the Ocrafolk Community for our annual concert. $15 Adults, $7 Kids

Saturday, November 26th:

11am: Books to Be Red will host a Holiday Open House! Sales and refreshments, 11am–4pm. 

6pm: Live Music at Ocracoke Oyster Company. Martin and Friends will play 6–9pm.

7pm: Holiday Parade of Boats! Boats large and small are welcome to light up the waters of Silver Lake Harbor! Enjoy refreshments at the Working Watermen's Exhibit at the Community Square while you watch from the docks.

7:30pm: Last Raygun Ruby show of the season! Raygun Ruby Unplugged! That's right -- it's everybody's favorite rockin' 80's cover band in a small, intimate listening room at the Coyote Den in the Community Square. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Sunday, November 27th:

Noon-6pm: Holiday Open House at Zillie's! Complimentary spiced apple cider, hot mulled wine, holiday treats, and secret surprise savings are all part of the plan for this festive afternoon! Join us for Zillie’s kickoff to the holidays!

Get creative! The 4th Annual "Ocracoke Through Your Eyes" show will feature small works by local artists – maybe you! Stop by the Museum, pick up a canvas, and be a part of the show! Or call the museum at 252-928-7375 and they will mail you one!  The canvasses are due back to the museum by January 10th. A wine-and-cheese reception and art opening is planned for Saturday, January 28th, from 5 – 7pm at the Museum.
