Obituary for Marshall Burgess

Marshall Shelby Burgess, Jr. formally of Raleigh passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Rex Rehab.
Marshall was born April 24, 1935 in Wake County to the late Marshall Shelby Burgess, Sr. and Mae Forbes Burgess. 

He was a graduate of Hugh Morson High School and attended N.C. State University before joining the U.S. Air Force. He had retired from Duke Progress Energy and had lived the last 15 years on Ocracoke Island. 

Marshall is predeceased by his wife, Ellen Martin Aycock Burgess; he is survived by his daughters, Valerie Anne Burgess of Baltimore MD; Christal Leigh Burgess of Raleigh; his son, Mark Thomas Burgess of Raleigh; sister, Pat Young of Raleigh, and close friend and companion Jen Esham and our extended family in Ocracoke. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Ocracoke Community Park, P. O. Box 1684, Ocracoke, NC 27960 or Ocracoke United Methodist Church, 71 School Road, Ocracoke, NC 27960 will be appreciated by the family. 

Graveside Services will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, beginning at 12:00, Friday, November 4th, 2016. A visitation will be on Thursday, November 3rd from 6 – 8 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh.
