Current Events Week of June 20th
Summer fun has begun! Lots of stuff happening on the island.

Monday, June 20:
Happy Solstice! Check out that beautiful full moon! It's officially full at 7am on Monday, but it appeared full Sunday night and will again tonight. There won't be a full moon on the Summer Solstice again until 2062. Carpe diem – go to the beach and see it.
At the Solstice, we have the longest day of sunlight for the whole year. The sun rises at its leftmost spot on the horizon and sets at its rightmost position. The days will start to get shorter on Tuesday, shrinking until the Winter Solstice in December. And it's the official First Day of Summer!
Monday at the OPS Museum means a Museum Tour at 1pm with an island resident with insider knowledge. This week it's Bill Jones!
A wonderful NPS volunteer will open the Lighthouse on Mondays from 1–3pm. You can go in, but not up!
The First Ocracoke Makers' Market at the historic Wahab House, 3–7pm. Crafters, food vendors, farmers' market. Learn more here.
NCDOT Public Hearing about the Rodanthe Bridge Project, 4–7pm at the Ocracoke Community Center.
Pirate Show at Deepwater Theater! Join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for a fun, family-friendly analysis of the infamous character Blackbeard the Pirate. 7:30pm; doors open at 7.
Tuesday, June 21:
Porch Talk at the OPS Museum at 1pm. Arrrgh! It's the Rumgagger show with Capt. Rob Temple and Fiddlin' Dave Tweedie! Porch Talks are free, informal, and informative!
Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote Plus One" at 8pm every Tuesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net
Wednesday, June 22:
Outdoor Classroom summer programs are offered every Wednesday at 10am. All programs are free, last approximately 90 minutes, are outdoors, and taught by Elizabeth Hanrahan, a certified wildlife educator. This week, you can learn about Estuaries: Where the River Meets the Sea at the Outdoor Classroom at NCCAT.
Just for Kids program at OPS at 1pm. This week, kids are invited to make an Okra-Coke lighthouse! All are welcome! A $5 donation for materials is appreciated.
Live Music! Barefoot West at Howard's Pub, beginning at 7pm, and Bryan Mayer at Ocracoke Oyster Company, beginning at 7pm.
Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote" (just Marcy and Lou!) at 8pm every Wednesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net
The weekly Ocrafolk Opry is tonight! Live music and storytelling by a variety of local talent. Shows begin at 8pm at Deepwater Theater. More info here.
Thursday, June 23:
Porch Talk at the OPS Museum at 10:30am. Storytelling from members of Donald Davis's storytelling workshop. Porch Talks are free, informal, and informative!

Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Summer wine tastings take place every Thursday and Friday at 6pm, and pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at zillies.com.
The Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department will hold their every-other-Thursday meeting at the Fire Hall at 7pm. They can always use new members! You can also stop by and get a way-cool OVFD t-shirt or order your reflective house number signs (so OVFD and Ocracoke EMS can find you!)
Coloring Night at Books to Be Red! Come out to color your stress away! 6:30–8:30pm. Books to Be Red provides coloring pages, crayons and markers, and refreshments, and it's FREE! Not sure what Coloring Night is? Read this story and find out!
More Live Music! Bryan Mayer will play at Ocracoke Oyster Company starting at 7pm.
Friday, June 24:
Mark Daniel is back for some Magical Storytelling! All ages are welcome to this FREE and fun program, sponsored by Ocracoke Friends of the Library. The fun starts at 11am at the Ocracoke Library.

Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night from March 25th – November 18th. More info at www.coyotemusic.net
Saturday, June 25:
Live music! Howard's Pub will host the Slammin' Dixie Band starting at 7pm and Ocracoke Oyster Company will also host live music, band TBA, starting at 7pm.
Sunday, June 26:
Martin and Friends play every Sunday night at Ocracoke Oyster Co, starting at 7pm.
Ocracoke Community Park is the place to be on Sunday afternoons. Come on out to join in Pick-Up Softball at 5pm. Fun and games!
