The Ocracoke Library will host a Summer Reading Program for kids again this summer. Sponsored by the Ocracoke Friends of the Library, the summer programs are free and open to the public. Children of all ages are welcome to attend! Librarian Mary Bryant is planning special programs (including yoga and drumming!) around this year's sporty theme.

Storyteller Mark Daniel will return this year for a magic show on June 24th at 11am. A Field Day event will take place on July 19th, and the NC Aquarium will bring some live animals for a special program on July 27th. Check the Current calendar for details and updates.

Stay tuned for more dates and information for summer reading events. Or stop by the library during public hours:  Monday – Friday, 3pm – 7pm, or Saturday 9a–1pm. (On Wednesdays, the library’s open an extra hour until 8pm!)

Visit the Friends of the Library booth at the Ocrafolk Festival!

Stop by and join Friends of the Library (just $5 for individuals and $10 for the whole family), and take home a free used book (they'll have plenty to choose from!) Or buy a ticket for the raffle to win one of two $20 Books to Be Red gift certificates! The Friends of the Library booth will be open at the Festival on Saturday, June 4th, 9am–4pm.

Ocracoke Friends of the Library will host their annual Used Book Sale on Wednesday, July 6th this year.

Time to spring clean your bookshelves! The library needs donations of used children’s and adult hardcover and paperback books to add to the book sale. Please drop them off during regular library hours. (Please, no magazines, textbooks, encyclopedias, DVDs, VHS, or CDs.)

The Book Sale will be open on Wednesday, July 6th from 9am – 3pm. If you’re a member of Ocracoke Friends of the Library, you can get in extra early at 8:30am for the best pickin’s. Not a member? Lucky you! You can join at the door for just $5 for individuals and $10 for the whole family.

Can't make it on the 6th? The Used Book Sale will be open during regular library hours throughout the month of July.

Each year, Ocracoke Friends of the Library buys books for the Ocracoke School Library and Community Library (two entities under one roof!), pays for magazine subscriptions and books subscription services, provides funds for new shelving and furniture, hires and pays a library custodian for the summer months, pays for annual carpet cleaning, supports library programming for children and adults, and manages several memorial funds and donations. They’ve also purchased computers for library patrons to use.

Friends of the Library sponsors the Summer Reading Program by funding programs, activities, prizes, snacks, and books.

All this and more is made possible by the Friends’ biggest fundraiser: the Used Book Sale! You can also support the library by visiting the ongoing Used Book Sale at Ocracoke Coffee Company.
