Charles “Chuck” A. Hotchkiss, Jr., 63, passed away February 15, 2016 in Winston Salem, N.C.

A graduate of Christ Church School and Appalachian State University, Chuck held various positions in banking and institutional development. Most recently, he generously dedicated his time and energy to helping his friends and family, woodworking, and tinkering on his sailboat on his beloved Ocracoke Island.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 40 years Elizabeth Winslow Hotchkiss, his daughter Elizabeth Gray Husted and husband Greg, and grandchildren James Winslow and Elizabeth Harriet. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Harriet van Houten and Charles Albert Hotchkiss, Sr.

Chuck was described by his Ocracoke friends as "A Renaissance Man," "A Force of Nature," and a man who lived life "On His Own Terms." 

A Celebration of Chuck's Life will be held on Saturday, February 27th on Ocracoke Island, at 5pm at the Ocracoke Community Center. It's a community potluck; please bring a dish to share. 

Another Celebration of Chuck's Life will take place May 14th at the Bethabara Park Celtic Festival. Gifts can be made to Historic Bethabara Park, Christ Church School, or Hyde County EMS Finance Department, Ocracoke Division (P.O. Box 188, Ocracoke).
